You might be feeling anxious or overwhelmed, struggling in your relationships, finding it difficult to manage your emotions, or simply wondering why you don’t feel as happy or fulfilled as you thought you would.

Sometimes there’s a clear problem. At other times, there’s just a sense that something’s off or that the ways you’ve always managed aren't working anymore.

Basis Psychology offers a calm and collaborative space to understand what's happening, get to the heart of what’s making things difficult, and to find a way forward that’s right for you.

How I can support you

People come to therapy for many different reasons. You don't need to know exactly what’s wrong or what needs to change before you begin.

Understanding the fuller picture

The problem that brings you to therapy may only be one part of what’s happening.

As we talk, we may begin to make connections between what you’re experiencing now, experiences from earlier in your life and ways of coping or relating that have developed over time.

I take care to understand how you think, feel and experience the world rather than jumping straight to practical strategies. Together, we can make sense of why particular situations affect you in the way they do and understand things that may previously have felt confusing.

This isn't about looking at the past for the sake of it. What we understand in therapy should help you with the life you’re living now.

My approach is warm, collaborative and grounded in evidence-based psychological practice. Sessions are tailored to you, drawing from different therapeutic approaches depending on what you’re experiencing and what we’re working towards.

Hi, I’m Nu

I'm Anuradhi (Nu) Jayasinghe, a Clinical Psychologist based in Melbourne CBD.

Growing up in both a Sri Lankan and Australian cultural context, and shaped by my family’s Buddhist heritage, I developed a deep interest in how people make sense of their lives and create purpose, meaning and happiness. This interest initially led me to study philosophy before pursuing psychology.

I’ve worked in mental health settings since 2016, supporting people through both everyday and more serious struggles.

In sessions, I prioritise creating a space where you feel heard and emotionally safe. I take the time to understand your experience and work collaboratively with you towards change that feels aligned with your values and the person you want to be.

Set yourself up for the life you want to live

Therapy can help you gain a better understanding of yourself, what matters to you and what you need.

The aim isn't to become a different person. It’s to understand yourself well enough to have more choice about how you want to live, relate to others and move forward.
